A chasuble is the essential, outermost liturgical garment worn by Catholic priests and bishops only during Mass, symbolizing the charity of Christ and acting as a poncho-like covering for the vestments underneath. Derived from the Latin casula ("little house"), they are color-coded for liturgical seasons—white/gold, purple, red, green, or black—and vary in style, including Gothic, fiddleback, and monastic designs.
